Solange Knowles was born on June 24, 1986, in Houston, Texas. Coming from a musical family, as the younger sister of Beyoncé, she expressed interest in music at a very early age. She began recording music during her early teen years, and after many brief periods in the group Destiny’s Child, she ultimately chose the solo route. At 16, she signed to her father’s record label, and in 2002 she released her first album Solo Star.
Throughout the 2000s she began acting and has made appearances on shows such as The Proud Family, Soul Train, One on One, and Listen UP! She has also had roles in the movies Johnson Family Vacation and Bring It On: All or Nothing. While taking on acting roles, she was also writing music for Destiny’s child members Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.
Solange would go on to release her second album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams in August 2008 and her EP titled True in 2012, and a year later she formed her label Saint Records.
On September 30, 2016, Solange released her third album A Seat at the Table and it charted at number one. Also, she won a Grammy for the song “Cranes in the Sky.” A Seat at the Table is the only Solange album that I have ever listened to, but when l feel like I need to feel empowered, I blast the album in my room for hours.
