Welcome to Musical.Black.Girl!
My name is Rachel and I’m a 19-year-old college student that spends most of my days procrastinating, working, shopping, relaxing at the beach, and listening to music.
I love listening to music. Music is my escape…my happy place. When I’m upset or sad, I go to my room and let the words in songs carry me far away..to a place where my problems are insignificant and my worries are no more.
For most of my life, I’ve solely listened to mainstream artists such as Kanye, Beyonce, Adele, and Ed Sheeran, but lately, I’ve been on a mission to find primarily underrated black female artists. The mainstream music scene is saturated with males, so I wanted to focus on females, and as a woman, I always feel that is absolutely necessary for all women to come together to support and uplift each other. These artists that I’ve found aren’t singing and/or rapping the same old tune; these musicians are unique. The words that they’re projecting speak to me and make me remember why I fell in love with music in the first place.
This blog will introduce black female artists that I have recently stumbled across and fell in love with, and hopefully, someone who reads this blog will begin to appreciate their music as much as I do!
